How often to change your air fitler, in your home.
Did you know? Air filters, in the home need to be changed regularly to ensure the best possible indoor air quality. The time between air filter changes varies with air filter type, system location and other environmental factors. Replacing air filters regularly allows your HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) system to run at peak performance and can help minimize health risks caused by harmful airborne particles.
For residential (home) applications, 1 inch pleated filters can last up to 90 days, and panel/fiberglass filters can last up to 30 days. For higher efficiency air filters, such as air cleaners, the lifespan can range from 6 months to one year. However, it is best to monitor air filters every 30 days to ensure that they don't need to be changed sooner. If the air filter is dirty (see photo), then it should be changed.
Environmental factors and certain living conditions can drastically reduce the life of your air filter. These instances include:
• Extreme outdoor temperatures (hot or cold)
• Heavy traffic
• Pets
• Smoke (Tobacco, Fireplace and Candle)
• Home remodeling/repair projects
• Dirty ductwork
